Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect your data

Last updated 28 June 2026

Meet Locale respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use our platform, why we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Meet Locale is the data controller for processing described here.

1. Data we collect

Account & profile — name, email, password hash, handle, bio, photo, languages, travel preferences, and settings you choose.

Content you create — posts, questions, comments, activity listings, RSVPs, messages, reports, and media you upload.

Verification — when you request verified status or access to women-only spaces, we may collect government ID or similar documents and review metadata needed to confirm eligibility. Verification data is handled with heightened care and access is restricted.

Location & destination — the destination you select, optional neighborhood or place labels you add to content, and — only if you turn it on — live location for safety sharing or SOS links.

Usage & device — session cookies, authentication tokens, approximate online/presence signals derived from activity, and basic technical logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) needed to secure and operate the Service.

Third-party sign-in — if you use Google OAuth, we receive your Google account identifier, name, email, and profile photo as permitted by Google.

2. How we use data

We use your data to:

• Create and secure your account and authenticate you. • Personalize your feed, search, and recommendations for your chosen destination. • Show nearby people and activities at the city or neighborhood level you choose — never a precise home address unless you explicitly attach one to content. • Operate messaging, activity chats, notifications, and realtime updates (via services such as Laravel Reverb and Pusher). • Run verification and women-only access controls. • Provide optional live-location sharing and SOS view links you generate. • Moderate content, investigate reports, and protect community safety. • Improve reliability, prevent abuse, and comply with law.

We do not sell your personal data.

3. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on:

• Contract — to provide the Service you signed up for. • Legitimate interests — to keep Meet Locale safe, prevent fraud, and improve the product, balanced against your rights. • Consent — for optional features such as live location sharing, marketing emails where offered, and non-essential cookies when required. • Legal obligation — when we must retain or disclose data to comply with law.

4. How we share data

We share data only as needed to operate Meet Locale:

• Infrastructure & service providers — hosting, email, media storage, analytics strictly necessary for operations, and realtime delivery partners bound by confidentiality obligations. • Other users — according to your visibility settings (public profile, posts, activity participation, messages to connections). • Live share links — anyone with a link you create can view the limited location data you chose to share for the link's duration. • Legal & safety — when required by law, to respond to valid requests, or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of users and the platform.

We do not share verification documents with other users.

5. Cookies & similar technologies

We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember the destination you are exploring (including for guests), and protect against cross-site request forgery.

We do not use third-party advertising trackers. If we introduce optional analytics or non-essential cookies in the future, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent.

6. Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account from Settings → Profile, we delete or anonymize your profile and content within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records for legal compliance, dispute resolution, or security (for example abuse investigations or backup cycles).

Verification documents are deleted or archived according to our internal retention schedule once verification is complete or your request is denied and any appeal window ends.

7. International transfers

Meet Locale may process data in countries other than where you live. When we transfer personal data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms where required by law.

8. Your rights & choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing.

You can update most profile information in Settings. To delete your account, go to Settings → Profile and use the delete account option.

To exercise other privacy rights, email support@meetlocale.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit, access controls, and monitoring to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication where available.

10. Children

Meet Locale is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact support@meetlocale.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be communicated in-app or by email.
