Perak Tong north of city — 40m golden Buddha inside limestone cave, climb to hilltop pavilion. Sam Poh Tong south (free, tortoise pond, Japanese pagodas). Do Perak Tong early, Sam Poh Tong after lunch. Grab between RM10–15.

Ipoh white coffee — beans roasted with margarine, served with condensed milk. Sin Yoon Loong and Nam Heong both on Jalan Bandar Timah, both claim original. RM5 coffee + kaya toast. Then bean sprout chicken (ngah choi kai) at Lou Wong or Onn Kee — locals debate winner.

Concubine Lane + Panglima Lane heritage — murals, boutiques, salted chicken shops. Ipoh old town compact, walkable. ETS train from KL ~2.5hr, Penang ~2hr. Feels like Penang 10 years ago before influencer overload.

Han Chin Pet Soo museum — tin mining history, guided tour only, book online. Ho Yan Hor museum needs early signup. Attractions close weird hours + lunch break — plan mornings for caves/museums, evenings for food.

Stop Ipoh between KL and Penang/Cameron — 2–3 nights ideal. Day 1 caves, Day 2 old town food crawl, Day 3 Kellie's Castle half day if you drive. Hotter than Penang — cave temples best before 10am.

BOH Sungai Palas Tea Centre — go 8:30–9am before clouds and tour buses. Factory viewing + café overlooking plantation. Closed some Mondays — check before you drive up. Cameron Valley (Bharat) is backup if BOH packed.

Base Tanah Rata not Brinchang — walkable cafes, steamboat dinner, less traffic. 2 nights minimum from KL (3hr drive). Day trip doable but rushed especially with windy roads. Avoid school holidays + weekends if you value sanity.

Mossy Forest Gunung Brinchang — need registered 4WD tour (private cars restricted). Boardwalk through cloud forest, cold + wet even when lowlands bake. Book morning slot. Different from tea plantations — do both.

Strawberry farms everywhere — pick-your-own RM25–40/kg. Kids love it, adults tolerate gift shop. Go mid-Jan after holiday crowds for actual strawberries left on plants (locals tip).
