Recent moments
Bang Niang vs Bang La On — stayed Bang Niang (Ramada area). Walk to night market, quieter beach than central Khao Lak. Bang La On has more shops but feels busier. 25km of coastline here — you need a driver or tour for almost everything except dinner walks.
James Bond Island tour from Khao Lak — long day but worth it. Kayak through Koh Panak caves was the highlight, not the photo stop at Koh Tapu. Book small group (max 8) if you can — we saw packed speedboats herding people like sheep.
Pak Weep Beach north of Bang Niang — almost empty mid-week. Calm water, no jet skis. Grab from Bang Niang 150 baht. Feels like a secret beach but it's just that Khao Lak spreads out and most people don't walk far.
Bang Niang Market Monday + Thursday nights — better than the tourist traps on the main road. Grilled fish, roti, fresh fruit. Takua Pa Sunday market if you have a scooter — old town vibes, fewer foreigners.

Family trip late August. Heard some restaurants close low season. Still enough open for a week? Rain every day or just afternoons?
